In road construction and pavement design, bituminous materials play a vital role in ensuring the durability, strength, and performance of the surface layer. Among the commonly used bituminous products are Bitumen 60/70, Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) PG76-10E, and Prime Coat MC-70.
Bitumen 60/70 is a penetration-graded bitumen with moderate hardness, widely used in hot mix asphalt for road base and surface layers. The numbers (60/70) represent the penetration range of the bitumen, indicating its consistency and suitability for moderate climates.
PMB (PG76-10)E refers to Polymer Modified Bitumen, graded under the Performance Grade (PG) system. PG76-10E is engineered to perform in high-temperature conditions (up to 76°C) while maintaining flexibility at low temperatures (-10°C). The "E" denotes its elastic properties, enhancing resistance to rutting, fatigue, and thermal cracking.
Prime Coat MC-70 is a medium-curing cutback bitumen, primarily used to prepare granular base surfaces before applying asphalt layers. It penetrates into the base, binds loose particles, and promotes adhesion between the base and subsequent asphalt layers.
Together, these materials contribute to the construction of long-lasting, high-performance pavements that can withstand various traffic loads and environmental conditions.
